This guide provides the information needed to operate the NEC INASET
R2 phone application. The topics in this chapter include:

NEC INASET R2 desktop terminals deliver traditional business
functionality while providing new value not typically offered by a voice
communication device. The INASET R2 comes embedded with a JAVA
Virtual Machine for running JAVA applications. In addition to basic
telephony features, INASET R2 provides:
• A single IP device for multiple functions such as telephone, Internet,
and customized business applications
• Peer-to-peer IP telephony connectivity
• Phone directory for storage of personal and corporate information
• Internet browsing capability
• Display of calling party's name and number
• Built-in inbound call history
• Ability to customize function and speed dial keys, and more
INASET R2 Overview
INASET R2 provides the ability to run basic applications that are either
embedded in the INASET R2 terminal, or downloaded from the network.
The INASET R2 also includes a web browser with optional Telephony
Transformation Gateway. The two "application mode" capabilities are:
• Network Application Mode
— Designed to implement multiple network-based applications
developed by NEC or other third parties using the INASET R2's
"application keys". The NEC INASET Software Developer's Kit
(SDK) describes how to configure the application keys to load
applications and launch URLs using a simple XML file.
