conditions:
v When installing a second power supply.
v When one of the two power supplies present in the system is replaced.
Before performing the following procedures, read the "Safety Notices" on page xi.
Use one of the following procedures to remove, replace, or install a power supply:
v If you are installing an option that requires removal of the power supplies, go to "Removing a Power
Supply with the System Power Off."
v If you are replacing the primary power supply, and it is the only power supply present in the system, go
to "Removing a Power Supply with the System Power Off."
v If you are installing a second power supply, or replacing one of two power supplies present in the

Power Supply LEDs
The power supply has three LEDs; two green LEDs (ac power good and dc power good), and one amber
LED, which indicate the power supply status. If both of the green LEDs are on solid (not blinking) and the
amber LED is off, then the power supply is operating correctly. If the ac power good LED is on, the dc
power good LED is blinking, and the amber LED is off, then the system is turned off, but the power supply
is still connected to the power source. If the amber LED is active, then the power supply is not operating
correctly.
Removing a Power Supply with the System Power Off
Before performing the following procedure, read and understand all of the safety notices beginning with
"Safety Notices" on page xi.
To remove a power supply with the system power off, do the following:

2. On a Model 6C3, open the rear rack door.
3. Disconnect the power cable from the rear of the power supply you want to remove.
4. Place the system into the service position as described in "Placing the Model 6C3 into the Service

286.
5. Remove the service access cover as described in "Removing the Model 6C3 Service Access Cover"
on page 288 or "Removing the Model 6E3 Service Access Cover" on page 289.
