    • Keep diskettes away from magnets or devices that create a strong magnetic field, such as electric motors and generators. Diskettes are sensitive to magnets found in television sets, telephones, stereo speakers, and other such items. A magnetic field can erase the data on your diskettes. Do not set diskettes on the monitor or use magnets to attach notes to your computer.

Disconnect the mouse cable from the computer. 3. Turn the mouse upside down. Unlock the retainer on the bottom of the mouse by moving it in the direction indicated by the arrow on the retainer.

    The system board, also called the planar or motherboard, is the main circuit board in your computer. It provides basic computer functions and supports a variety of devices that are IBM-installed or that you can install later. Refer to the following illustration for the location of parts on the system board.

    You can add memory to your computer to increase system performance. Your computer has two connectors for installing memory modules. Your computer uses dual inline memory modules (DIMMs). The IBM-installed DIMMs that come with your computer are unbuffered, synchronous dynamic random access memory (SDRAM).
