Multipathing support for NAS Gateway 500
Depending on the storage subsystem that you have, you can choose the
multipathing software. Be sure that your configuration needs multipathing, because
the configuration might not be supported to run multipathing software with only one
path.
Multipath I/O and SDD considerations for NAS Gateway 500
This is an overview of multipath I/O and SDD considerations for NAS Gateway 500.
The NAS Gateway 500 is shipped with the following preinstalled multipathing
drivers:
v Multipath I/O (MPIO)
v Multipathing Software for FAStT storage Subsystems (RDAC)
MPIO is a technology that was introduced as part of the AIX 5.2 operating system.
If you want to connect to a storage unit using multiple paths, you must use
Subsystem Device Driver (SDD). The MPIO driver also performs this connection for
an unclustered NAS Gateway 500 attached to storage unit. SDD (multipathing
software for the storage unit) is not preinstalled on the NAS Gateway 500. However,
you can connect FAStT storage to your NAS Gateway 500 without adding additional
software.
You can download the latest version of SDD from the Internet. To check for the
latest versions of SDD, go to the following website: http://www-
1.ibm.com/servers/storage/support/software/sdd.html. You must verify that the
provided SDD version supports the NAS Gateway 500 and must check the SDD
prerequisites in the readme files and in the installation documentation. Restrictions
and prerequisites can appear. Look for any required program temporary fixes
(PTFs). You can also verify prerequisites regarding the DS6000 Interoperability
Matrix at the following web site:
http://www.ibm.com/servers/storage/disk/ds6000/interop.html. Look for entries
regarding the NAS Gateway 500.
Host attachment multipathing scripts
This section provides instructions for applying host attachment multipathing scripts.
Before installing the multipathing software SDD, you must install storage unit
attachment scripts on the NAS nodes.
1. Prepare your environment for migration from a MPIO environment to a SDD
environment.
a. If you install the host attachment scripts (devices.fcp.disk.ibm.rte) for the
first time on the NAS Gateway 500, you must remove the MPIO drivers. To
check if the attachment scripts are installed, enter the following command
on a command line: lslpp -La | grep 1750
b. Figure 37 on page 72 displays the situation where MPIO
(devices.fcp.disk.ibm.mpio.rte) is installed, and the 1750 host attachment
scripts (devices.fcp.disk.ibm.rte, a prerequisite for SDD) is not installed.
Both versions will not coexist on the NAS Node. If they both exist, you
must unconfigure and remove the MPIO package.
