Preparation
The following items are required for setup. Prepare them before starting the setup work.
A PC for the Setup Wizard (Maintenance system)
Operating system: Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, or Windows XP
100/10Base interface, Internet Explorer Version 5.0 or later
A Shielded LAN cable (to be used with the PC for the Setup Wizard)
Cross-Over cable to connect the unit directly with the PC for the Setup Wizard, or
Straight cable to connect the unit with the PC for the Setup Wizard via a hub
Phillips screwdriver No. 1
IP addresses listed below
Disk array unit
- LAN port on controller 0
- LAN port on controller 1
- MNT port on controller 0
- MNT port on controller 1
LAN port on PC for Setup Wizard
LAN port for NEC Storage server (for every port)
LAN port on power control server (for every port)
Three or more persons are required to carry the unit.
At least three FC disk drives are required for setup. You need to purchase the necessary FC
disk drives separately. See the User's Guide (stored on CD-ROM) that shipped with the unit for
details.

Unpacking
Unpack the shipping carton, and remove the packing materials. Leave the shipping carton open at least
9 hours before unpacking so that the unit acclimates to the ambient temperature enough to prevent dew
condensation.
Open the package and take out the disk array unit and accessories from the package carefully.
The disk array unit is very heavy, you must enlist help to lift it in order to prevent personal injury. To
remove the disk array unit from the package, more than three people should always support the bottom
of the unit, without holding it by the power supply or the projections of the controller.
The package is specially designed for the transportation of a precision device. Do not dispose of the
package. If repair ever becomes necessary, the package is required to return the disk array unit to the
factory.
