  • Page 7 EN-2 SD SERIES BENCH SCALE Introduction Ths manual covers operaton for the Ohaus SD Seres Bench Scales. Unpacking SD Seres Bench Scale s shpped wth the followng components: • Indcator • AC Power Adapter • Scale Base • Ths Instructon Manual • Mountng Brackets • Warranty Card Leveling Scale Platform The Scale Base should be placed on a level, stable surface before operaton. Models SD75L and SD200L are equpped wth adjustable levelng feet. Adjust the four levelng feet under the platform to level t. Power Options AC Adapter Operation • The AC Adapter (ncluded) may be used to power the system when battery power s not avalable. • Check that the AC nput power as marked on the Adapter matches the avalable power source. • Connect the round plug of the AC Adapter to the power nput jack at the sde of the Indcator housng. See Fgure 1. • Plug the AC Adapter nto an AC power outlet. Fgure 1. Connectng Adapter Plug to Indcator.

    SD SERIES BENCH SCALE EN-3 Battery Installation (Optional) • Open the battery cover on the bottom of the Indcator and nstall three “C” sze (LR14) alkalne batteres nto the compartment. Orent the batteres as shown on the nsde cover. Close the battery cover. NOTE: Batteres are not ncluded. Fgure 2. Battery Installaton. CAUTION: Do not dispose of used batteries in domestic waste. Follow the proper disposal or recycling requirements in accordance with local laws and regulations. Indicator Mounting and Placement Options • Table Top Placement: The Indcator may be placed on a flat table surface wthout addtonal hardware. Four rubber feet provde reduced slppage on most surfaces.

Poston the Indcator where desred on the wall or table. Install 2 screws (not suppled) nto the ends of each bracket to secure them to the surface. When mountng to a wall wthout sold backng, use approprate anchorng hardware. MOUNTING NOTES: 1. When attachng brackets: Insert round pns nto holes at bottom of Indcator, slde each bracket back to lock n place. 2. Mountng brackets may be attached n two dfferent orentatons to provde optmum vewng angle. 3.     SD SERIES BENCH SCALE EN-5 Product Features & Operation Fgure 5. Indcator Panel Controls. Two Button Keypad • ON/ZERO Off : A short press turns on the scale when t s off. When the scale s on, a short press zeroes the scale, and a long press turns the scale off. • UNITS Cal : A short press changes the weghng unt and weghng mode. A short press ntates countdown durng Dynamc Weghng Mode. A long press ntates the calbraton process. Display Window Large 7-Segment Numeric Characters: • Weght (mass) values are shown usng 4 dgts ncludng negatve sgn and decmal places. Prompts for calbraton and possble error condtons are also shown usng these dgts. Stable Reading Indication : A • wll appear n the lower left corner of the dsplay to ndcate when the readng s stable.     EN-6 SD SERIES BENCH SCALE Low Battery Indication • : The battery symbol on the left sde of the dsplay ndcates a low battery condton. When frst dsplayed , approxmately 12 hours of operaton reman. When the battery s fully depleted, the scale wll momentarly dsplay “Lo bAt” and shut off. Operation Power Up Test : When the ON/ZERO Off button s pressed, the scale • s turned on, all dsplay segments wll appear for a short tme, followed by the software verson. The dsplay wll then reset to zero. Zero Function : By pressng the ON/ZERO Off button, the scale dsplay • returns to zero. When addng addtonal mass, the ON/ZERO Off button may be used repeatedly untl the full capacty of the scale s reached. When a contaner s used, the ON/ZERO Off button may be used to smulate a Tare functon. Addtonal mass may then be added as a NET weght. When removng both the sample and contaner from the scale, a negatve value may be dsplayed. Zero the scale agan before subsequent usage. NOTE: The ON/ZERO Off button wll perform a true zero settng functon when dsplayed values are wthn +2% of full capacty. Above 2%, the range s lmted to full capacty by subtracton.

    SD SERIES BENCH SCALE EN-7 Auto Shut-Off • : To extend battery lfe, the scale wll automatcally turn off after approxmately four mnutes of nactvty. Ths feature s only actve durng battery operaton. Dynamic Weighing 1. Wth platform empty, press the UNITS Cal button untl the ndcator • flashes next to the desred measurng unt. 2. Place a mass on the platform. The scale wll show “-A-”. NOTE: If usng a contaner, press ON/ZERO Off to tare the weght and return to zero. 3. Wth a mass on the platform or contaner, a short press of UNITS Cal wll start the averagng countdown from 5 seconds. 4. The averaged weght s then dsplayed. The ndcator • stops flashng when the process s complete. 5. The dsplay wll hold untl a button s pressed. 6. To repeat the process press UNITS Cal wth a mass on the platform or contaner. 7. To Ext, remove the mass from the platform or contaner and press UNITS Cal.
  • Page 13 EN-8 SD SERIES BENCH SCALE Calibration For best results, calbrate the scale at regular ntervals. (Calbraton weghts are not suppled wth the scale.) CAUTION USE EXTREME CARE WHEN HANDLING CALIBRATION WEIGHTS AS THEY ARE VERY HEAVY. IMPROPER LIFTING METHODS OR MISUSE OF CALIBRATION WEIGHTS MAY RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY. MULTIPLE WEIGHTS MAY BE USED TO EQUAL THE REQUIRED CALIBRATION WEIGHT. 1. Allow the scale to warm up and stablze for a least two mnutes before commencng the calbraton procedure.
  • Page 14 SD SERIES BENCH SCALE EN-9 5. After the zero s captured, the requred span calbraton weght n the selected unt s dsplayed. 6. Place the calbraton weght on the platform and press ON/ZERO Off button. The dsplay wll agan show “-C-”. 7. After span capture, the dsplay wll return to the normal weghng mode. NOTE: The message “CAL E” wll appear f an ncorrect calbraton weght was appled. Repeat the procedure usng the correct calbraton weght. Calibration Locking: By use of an nternal swtch, the calbraton functon may be locked (dsabled), and unauthorzed recalbraton prevented. 1. Wth the scale powered off, remove the back housng secton of the ndcator by unscrewng the four screws at the bottom. 2. Slde the swtch on the PCB (marked SW3) to the poston marked “CAL LOCK”. 3. Reassemble the housng. 4. If requred, place tamper evdent sealng labels over the screw holes or over the housng edges. If later recalbraton s requred, the housng wll need to be reopened and the lock swtch returned to the orgnal poston. NOTE: When the lock swtch s set to the CAL LOCK poston, the power-on zero range s reduced to 10% of full capacty.

    SD SERIES BENCH SCALE EN-13 LIMITED WARRANTY Ohaus products are warranted aganst defects n materals and workmanshp for duraton of the warranty. Durng the warranty perod Ohaus wll repar, or, at ts opton, replace any components) that proves to be defectve at no charge, provded that the product s returned, freght prepad, to Ohaus. Ths warranty does not apply f the product has been damaged by accdent or msuse, exposed to radoactve or corrosve materals, has foregn materal penetratng to the nsde of the product, or as a result of servce or modfcaton by other than Ohaus. In leu of product regstraton, the warranty perod shall begn on the date of shpment to the authorzed dealer. No other express or mpled warranty s gven by Ohaus Corporaton. Ohaus Corporaton shall not be lable for any consequental damages.
