DHCP client configuration on an interface implicitly removes the static IP address
configuration on the interface.
If the device is configured to obtain its IP address from a DHCP server, it sends a
DHCPDISCOVER message to provide information about itself to the DHCP server
on the network.
The no ip address dhcp command releases any IP address that was acquired, and
sends a DHCPRELEASE message.
Example
The following example acquires an IP address for gi16 from DHCP.

renew dhcp
Use the renew dhcp Privileged EXEC mode command to renew an IP address that
was acquired from a DHCP server for a specific interface.
Syntax
{interface-id} [
renew dhcp
Parameters
•
interface-id—Only required in routing mode (Layer 3). Specifies an
interface ID (Ethernet port, Port-channel or VLAN).
•
force-autoconfig - If the DHCP server holds a DHCP option 67 record for the
assigned IP address, the record overwrites the existing device
configuration.
